Shoot log

1)   Date/programme title/location:
The interiew with Shane and his mentor Lorraine at the St Edmunds Society. Person who already finished the Norwich for Jobs program give more details
2)   Role:
During the shoot I helped with placing the cameras and the lights, as well as setting up the cameras and framing the interview. Therefore my main role was to check on the sound and interview Lorraine.

3)   Crew & their roles
I was there with other members of the group who were responsible for the cameras, however we were missing one person.

4)   Key storylines captured & characters:

The main story that we captured during the interview was the great passion to work that Shane showed us and his story of being addicted to drugs. Lorraine was very simialr to Clare, when she gave us very interesting and isnpiring answers about why young people should be giving th chance to work. At some point she got a bit emotional, which we thought would be an interesting part of the documentary, because the whole producation was positive. Her getting emotional would not make the things he said negative or sad. It would only make it more powerful. In that moment we knew we should use it at the end of the interview as th final statement.

5)   How has this affected the overall direction of the content?
It did not really change the idea of how we wanted the interview to look like. It only showed us that this interview is the strongest one and should be presented a the begining of the mini documetary. It would be the Act 1 for us. The part that asks the question and attracts the audiences' interest.

6)   What do we need to capture at the next shoot?
It was the las interview we had to film. After asking questions we went to film Shane working with bricks and showing us around the place.

7)   How well did the shoot go?
The part with Lorraine went very well. I improved a lot sicne te interview with James. I did not have to take time to find the right questions really. I was on point, knowing what I need to ask next. The tricky part was with Shane. He did not talk much really. He also did not know what to say or he did not know how to answer a question. I was helping a lot, asking questions in the easiest way possible, trying to word them in a way that he would have to say more than he usually did. That way we got a little bit more off him so the footage was not too hard to work with.

8)   How can we improve our work method?

In the future we could think more about the way we ask our questions. For example have the main questions and then thireasier to understnd form, because we may not know if the person we are going to interview will talk a lot or not. We could think of backup questions or prctive with looking cerefuly for tings they say to be able to turn those into futher questions as we go.

ps: I did not edit this part for the main documentary
